Social Media Marketing: Connection

By Lee Ann Brady on 01.09.13Category: Dental Marketing, Restorative Dentistry

So in this last segment on social media marketing I wanted to talk about using the media to help patients and potential patients connect with you and your team. One of the most powerful things we can do today with technology is stay connected or get connected with other people. I have a belief that patients want to be in relationship with us, as more than simply a provider of dental services. There is a sense of belonging when we know about another persona and they know about us.

When I think about connecting over the web there are definitely some guidelines. One great way to help build a connection is to write the content in the first person, so speak for yourself and share stories about your self and real life situations that happened in the office. A great way to start a blog post is ” Today a patient asked….” and then answer that patient while sharing about the situation, without of course violating anyone’s privacy. To the extent that you are comfortable, and team members are comfortable help patients get to know you through stories and pictures of your family, pets, vacations and other activities you are passionate about. If you volunteer and help the community, share that, whether it is providing dental services to the underprivileged or helping our with pet rescue.

Another great connection point is to help patients know when you are taking a continuing education course and what you learned. One cardinal rule to remember is “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” Be particular in what you share, and make sure the information is representative of how you want your patients to see and know you. This applies to team members as well if they are connected to you through social media channels.
